Valuable Life Advice (V)
Pay attention to where you place your attention.
I selected several pieces of advice from Kevin Kelly's *Excellent Advice for Living* that seem especially worth putting into practice. Here they are, together with my own reflections, in the hope that they may encourage us all.

要注意
Pay attention
to where you place your attention.
Kun: Too many things now compete for our attention. Are we caught in the temptation of short videos, or focused on work and learning? Do we keep investing in short-term trivialities, or in what matters over the long term? Do we focus on what is negative and discouraging, or on what is positive and constructive? Attention shapes our lives, our thinking, and the direction of our growth. We should therefore examine where our attention goes and direct it toward what is valuable and important.

With just a few words of encouragement,
you really can make another person's life better.
Kun: Never underestimate the effect that a word of encouragement can have. My own life changed course because of encouragement from my middle-school homeroom teacher, and I remain deeply grateful. Sincere encouragement gives people hope and strength, builds confidence, and releases potential. We should encourage those around us more often and help create an environment filled with positivity, trust, and support.

做出明智决定的诀窍;
The secret to making a wise decision:
look at today's choice from the perspective
of twenty-five years from now.
What will your future self think?
Kun: Short-term temptations can easily lead us to choose what serves our immediate interests. One of the simplest ways to make a wiser decision is to view today's choice from the future. This helps us step outside our present circumstances, see the issue more fully, and make a more rational and farsighted choice.

Find the time of day when you are most productive,
and protect it.
Kun: One of the most important principles of time management is maintaining focus. To focus at your best, first identify the time of day when you are most effective. It differs from person to person. Once you know when it is, protect that time and use it for your most important work. You will accomplish far more with far less effort.

If you can see a situation from another person's perspective,
you can move through the world with ease.
This shift in perspective creates
genuine empathy.
It also gives you the ability to persuade others,
which is essential to great design.
Learn to see through another person's eyes,
and countless closed doors will open to you.
Kun: Each of us has biases and blind spots that limit our view. Fortunately, we can shift perspective and see a situation more completely and objectively. Whether we are collaborating with a team, resolving conflict, conducting a business negotiation, or designing a product, putting ourselves in another person's place reveals things we would otherwise miss. It helps us understand people, solve problems, build cooperation, and achieve breakthroughs in innovation.

The right response to anger is not anger.
When you see someone who is angry,
you are seeing their pain.
The right response to anger is compassion.
Kun: Anger is often the outward expression of pain. Beneath it may lie vulnerability, frustration, fear, pressure, or a sense of helplessness. If you can see the hidden pain in an angry person, you are less likely to react with anger or impulse. You also understand that meeting anger with anger only intensifies conflict and suffering. Compassion and understanding, however, can dissolve that dark energy and help it return to calm.
