Around the Lunar New Year, DeepSeek struck like a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder, capturing the world's attention. As software professionals, we have been exploring and applying AI ever since ChatGPT emerged.

The DeepSeek phenomenon overturned many people's expectations about the development of large models in China. We had assumed the gap would only widen, yet suddenly a Chinese model had caught up and even pulled ahead.

Here are five reflections:

1. As Liang Wenfeng has said, “Most Chinese companies are accustomed to following rather than innovating.” Innovation demands tremendous confidence and conviction. In technology in particular, it requires enormous investment while offering highly uncertain returns. Most attempts fail, and even the few that succeed are often absorbed by industry giants.
